Epidural Steroid Injection

  • Bedrest, limited activity for 24 hours
  • Use ice and heat alternately for muscle soreness
  • No alcoholic beverages for 24 hours
  • Do not drive for 24 hours
  • Call Doctor immediately for headache, fever or weakness
  • Avoid excessive exercise and physical therapy for 2 days
  • Resume diet as tolerated
  • Take pain medication as prescribed

 

 Stellate Ganglion Block

  • You may experience sore throat, hoarse voice, droopy eyelid on side of injection
  • Don’t eat or drink anything for 5-6 hours after surgery
  • Start with small sips of fluids if you can swallow without problems
  • Advance slowly to a regular diet
  • Ice the area of injection 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 1-2 days following the procedure to reduce local soreness

 

Sympathetic Block

  • No hot shower or bath for 24 hours
  • Change position slowly from sitting to standing
  • Resume blood pressure medication the day after procedure
  • Resume diet as tolerated
  • Take pain medication as prescribed
  • Ice the area of injection 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 1-2 days following the procedure to reduce local soreness

 

Trigger Point Injections

  • Resume activity as tolerated
  • Take medications as prescribed
  • Expect some muscle soreness which should subside in a few days
  • Advise Doctor of redness, swelling, or drainage from any injection sites
  • Ice the area of injection 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 1-2 days following the procedure to reduce local soreness

 

SI Joint/Facet Joint Injections

  • Resume activity as tolerated
  • Take pain medications as prescribed
  • Expect some soreness which should subside in a few days
  • Advise Doctor of redness, swelling, or drainage from any injection sites
  • Ice the area of injection 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 1-2 days following the procedure to reduce local soreness

 

 Cryoanalgesia

  • Resume activity as tolerated
  • Take pain medications as prescribed
  • Advise Doctor of any redness, swelling or drainage at injection site
  • Ice the area of injection 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 1-2 days following the procedure to reduce local soreness

 

Radiofrequency
